Steampunk?

So I'm not too sure how I feel about this yet. The CofC anime club is having a Steampunk ball this saturday night and after seeing my friend Jeffrey jump up and down so high that his head almost hit the ceiling, I'm half inclined to check it out. I had no idea what it was so I did a bit of research and found out its pretty cool. From a costume designer's perspective at least. I don't know if there is a musical with steampunk style clothing, but I want someone to write one just so I can design the Western/Victorian/futuristic costumes. Its like a cross between Oregon Trail, Wild, Wild West and Amelia Earhart. And if you know anything about me, you'd know that I'll take any excuse to wear peacock feathers in my hair.
