Cartoon Karl

Quick post, found the coolest thing ever. What is it you ask? A lifetime supply of baked goods? A pass to take anything you want out of the Vogue closet? EVEN BETTER!! Cartoon Karl Lagerfeld :) If you don't know who Karl is and we are friends, do not tell me because then I will wonder how I could possibly hang out with someone SO uncultured. Look him up, he's a genius.

Breakfast cupcakes and Oreos (cont.)

This past Thursday on baking with Beischer (I like to pretend I have a TV show with millions of devoted followers like Martha Stewart minus the fraud) I had a baking fest. I baked not once but twice in one day. And it made it extra special because my best friend in the entire world,Kent, was back visiting from studying abroad in China. It had been 8 months since I'd seen him so needless to say it was exciting. First we made brunch at 3 pm (college life for ya) and we made these Bacon, Egg and Toast cups, recipe courtesy of Annie's Eats, which I dubbed breakfast cupcakes :) It was like an entire breakfast in a convenient cupcake sized portion. And they were delicious! I'm making them again for sure. That night, I was still on an Oreo kick from last weeks deep-fried heaven, and so I made Cookies & Cream cheese cupcakes, courtesy of Handle the Heat. It was the perfect mix of Oreo and cheesecake. Baking without proper appliances, however, has started to cause problems. For instance, not having an electric mixer makes it really hard to whip cream cheese. However this problem was solved by using a blender, some water and a microwave. Baking with Beischer Thursday aren't always easy, but they are always fun :)

Fashion fades, only style remains.

As most people that have spent any length of time with me know, I love fashion. February and September are two of the best times of the year for me because that is when the new Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer collections, respectively, hit the runways. Fashion week is like the Super Bowl/World Series/Olympics of the fashion world. If you've ever been around me during Fashion Week, you'd know that I go a little crazy. I sit on style.com looking at countless runway shows, after parties, the new trends, and recently, even watching a few of the shows streamed live every free moment I have. For fashion lovers that don't have the money or status to go to New York or Paris or Milan, the webcasts of the shows are fantastic. Because for 5 minutes, you get to imagine what it would be like to sit in the front row at Marc Jacobs, Rodarte or Chanel. In case you don't even have a general idea of what that would be like, it goes something like this. Lights come up, music pulses in. Tall, thin model after model comes down the runway in the most fantastic/beautiful/strange/ugly/theatrical/over styled but in a good way garment you've ever seen. The sensory overload is exceptional. You've just seen the designers entire heart and soul in fabric form in front of your very eyes. And in an instant, it all ends. The designer comes out and waves/bows/does a cartwheel (Betsey Johnson) and everyone claps. Then all of the editors, buyers, celebrities (depending on which show you go to) and a few lucky regular people talk about how fabulous the coat with the high collar and the fur trim was or how the makeup and hair was really on trend for this season. Then each person leaves, taking a little piece of that show out into the world with them, wherever the wind takes them. And hopefully, that person will see the world a little differently, a little brighter and a little more artistically than they did before. The fashion show is the essence of the fashion world. Because when it all comes down to it, those five minutes keep the heart and soul of fashion alive.

Deep-Fried Heaven

So Thursday nights have become baking with Beischer night. Every Thursday, Jeffrey picks me up and we go to the grocery store, then go to his brother Alex's house and bake up something fabulous. I always choose what were baking based on what I find on StumbleUpon at 3 am when I should be sleeping. Baseball season just started and in honor of it, I decided to make funnel cakes because it was the most baseball oriented dessert I could think of. I got a great recipe off Food Network's website, courtesy of Emeril, one of my favorite chefs. Its surprisingly difficult to find a good funnel cake recipe because every one has the same basic ingredients (eggs, milk, flour, sugar etc.) but in drastically different proportions, so I had no idea which one would be best. Luckily, it worked out in our flavor (HA). We also made deep-fried Oreos. If you've never had a deep-fried Oreo, put it on your bucket list because they are exceptional. Its basically an Oreo dipped in funnel cake batter, fried and sprinkled with powdered sugar. I didn't use a recipe for this, I just kinda went for it and they turned out great. And I only burned myself with the hot oil a few times. Here are a few pics, Enjoy :)

Keepin' it classy

I pride myself on keeping it classy. We all slip up once in awhile, but mostly I think I carry myself with a fair amount of elegance. There are many people who are always seen as classy no matter what they wear, whether it be The Queen or Audrey Hepburn, simply because of the way they carry themselves. Other people are infamous for being train wrecks, the kind of trashy that is splashed across the tabloids. Personally I love a good train wreck, like Courtney Love. You don't except anything from them except pure ridiculousness. Which is amusing and fabulous in a tragic sort if way. But, how does one know if they're classy? Take this quiz and find out. Thank God for this or else everyone would still be wondering if that tramp stamp tattoo you got on Spring Break of your ex-boyfriend's name was a good idea :) Here are some of my favorite classy/trashy girls...

Late Night findings: Japan Fashion Week

I found this when I was stumbling on the net way too late. Really weird, but really cool. Cat ear hats? Yes please. Goodnight :)

Life Lessons

So I started off writing this blog with the intention of posting funny stories, yummy recipes and cool fashion spreads and whatever else fun and exciting I wanted to share with the world that day. But today something happened that only happens once in a very blue moon. Thomas, Christine, Mariam and I were in a car accident. Thomas lost control of the car and although he handled it with the skill of a race car driver, his car ended up in pretty bad shape, totaled in fact. The remarkable thing is that I'm sitting here writing this because every one of us came out of that car without a scratch. So many people go through exactly what we did and don't live to tell the story. If it wasn't for 3 metal wires in the middle of the road, chances are we would probably be dead. Moments like this give you so much perspective on life. Silly fights with my parents and friends, getting upset over a B on a test instead of a B+, and even getting your car totaled seems insignificant compared to what really matters in life. I think its befitting that this is Easter Sunday too, because God was definitely on our side today. I am so thankful for everything and very humbled by this experience. God Bless :)
